Every contractor knows he is only as good as his last job. 

Depending on how much your contractor is on site, he
could have complete control, or little to none. References are
the next best thing to a referral from a friend - if you get the right one. 

Get a reference from the last job the contractor did. 
You could learn a lot with the right questions answered. 
So what do you want to know about the jobs the contractor
did for his last client.  Here are four questions to ask the 
contractor's reference.

  1. Were they on time daily?
  2. Did they meet the schedule?
  3. On a scale of 1-10, how satisfied were the previous clients with the work?
  4. Was the job over or under budget?
